Taking Action Now

    Overview:

Welcome to my first post! In this blog, I will talk about the environment. I love the outdoors, hiking, fishing, and hunting. I feel very strongly about many topics because I want to conserve our world because right now many bad things are happening. This week, I read “What you can do to help prevent climate change, according to experts”, which is an article that focuses on what is causing climate change and what to do to help prevent it. The main idea of this article is to tell the reader what are some actions that we can take to reduce climate change and how it is being “spread” right now and what people and companies are doing wrong. One idea that I found interesting was the part when the author talks about the numbers. Seeing how much carbon is being released into the environment really shows me how bad all of this is getting and we need to make some changes soon.

It made me wonder what actions we can take right now and how those actions can really have an impact on preventing climate change. There are many long-term actions that can be taken but those don't affect our environment for a while. There is no time to be waiting around right now because climate change is real and it is getting worse. Voting, for example, is a reasonable way to get certain politicians to implement laws to change the way we live and how to control our environment. However, this is not an action that can be taken at this moment or in the next week or so. I will tell you things that you and your household can do to reduce climate change.

Steps to a Greener Way of Living:

According to Reset.com, these are things that people and households can do right now to reduce climate change. One piece of information I found was to switch to green power. This means that possibly making the call to switch to solar panels instead of burning fossil fuels for heating and electricity. This information supported the information in the original article because it is stated in the part of the article titled “Other Actions you can Take” that you can Install solar panels, if you can, and source electricity from non-carbon-based energy sources.” Another thing that you can do that is quite simple is avoiding plastic. Buying glass bottles or carrying around a water bottle instead of buying plastic ones are very simple yet effective ways to reduce climate change. This is because it is found in oceans, rivers, and believe it or not even in the air that you breathe. Another huge reason why plastic is not good and we should cut down on it is the fact that mostly all types of plastic are produced through fossil fuels. The making of plastic also emits crazy amounts of greenhouse gases.

Other Actions You Can Take:

1. Carpool- if there are fewer cars out on the street, that is fewer emissions going into the atmosphere which will help greatly in the long run.

2.  Ride your bike- Living in big cities it is easy to get around on a bicycle. You get good exercise and there is nothing bad being emitted to the environment too!

3. Plant more trees- trees take in Carbon Dioxide and change that damaging gas into oxygen which humans need so with more trees our environment will be looking pretty good!

4. Save energy- simple things such as turning the lights off or unplugging the hairdryer can all help out our environment if we all do it.

5. Fly less frequently- flying in airplanes emits the largest amount of CO2 in such a short period of time, finding alternative ways of getting to your destination can help greatly.

  1. Good ideas about solutions that might be easier to implement. Why do you think that people are so resistant to these kind of changes?

    1. Yes, people have been doing things that aren't good for the environment just because it is convenient for them.

  2. I agree with all of your statements and solutions. Climate change is a huge problem and it needs to be fixed. What specifically are the greenhouse gases doing to damage the environment?
